The best at GolfTEC are some of the best in America.
Steve Atherton, GolfTEC VP of Golf Instruction and PGA Master Professional, authored the feature instruction article in the September issue of Golf Digest. This six-page article titled, “1.8 Million Lessons Prove…This Move Will Cure Your Slice,” combines the proven facts from over 1.8 million lessons with expertise of one of America’s best young golf instructors, Steve Atherton.
Just one month earlier, in the August issue of Golf Digest, three of GolfTEC’s best were recognized as some of the top teachers in America. Atherton along with Andy Hilts, GolfTEC National Director of Instruction and PGA Master Professional, made the Top-20 Teachers Under 40 list. Additionally, Ty Walker, GolfTEC Denver Director of Instruction, was recognized as one of the top teachers in Colorado. Atherton, Hilts and Walker ranked 4th, 9th and 11th of Colorado’s best teachers, respectively.
These recent accomplishments have made one thing clear: GolfTEC’s leadership is part of the next generation of America’s great golf instructors.
If you got a chance to read Steve Atherton’s article in Golf Digest, leave a comment and tell us what you thought. If you haven’t read it, grab a copy of the September issue and check it out.
Update: Golf Digest has posted a video summary of Atherton’s article.

By far the best Golf Digest Article I have ever read. When is GolfTEC going to release their own magazine???
Appreciate the comment, Jeff. We’re looking to this blog and our Momentum Newsletter as a platform for delivering content, as opposed to something like a magazine.
I was wondering when something from GolfTEC was going to show up in the ‘mainstream’. I didn’t appreciate that GolfDigest ‘pigeon holed’ the concept as a ‘slice cure’, though. But, it certainly addressed the problem I (and probably most GolfTEC clients) had when I started w/ GTEC 6 years ago. I’d like to see a series on Golf Channel. Over 2 Million lessons taught is a pretty strong resume’. Great work.
Paul, we were certainly excited to finally get some space in Golf Digest and a chance to hopefully help more golfers by reaching a larger audience! Glad you enjoyed it. We purposely designed the article as a “slice cure” because so many amateurs slice the ball, and I do feel that those two main concepts (early shoulder turn and tilt in the backswing, and shoulder tilt coming down into the ball) are the primary cause of so much misunderstanding about the swing – even among instructors.
We knew that the slicing component would help grab attention, and it would hit home for a high percentage of readers. However, those concepts are absolutely valid and essential for almost ALL good players regardless of shot shape. Just wanted to let you know why the article was presented in that fashion.
We hope to have more fun and informative articles on the way soon!

Steve: I embraced your DRIVE It LONGER from Golf Mag. October issue and I am amazed at the results. I’m 82 years young, and my drives have extended from 175/180 to 200/210 My playing partners can’t believe the results I have to stand in a more upright position when I swing but the results have been fantastic. Thank you for your article.
Howdy great website! Does running a blog like this require a large amount of work? I’ve absolutely no knowledge of programming however I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future. Anyway, should you have any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners please share. I know this is off subject however I simply had to ask. Thanks!
